I started my career in education as a volunteer at Whipsnade Zoo. I then qualified as a teacher and spent the next 16 years working in secondary schools teaching Biology, Science and Health & Social Care. In 2001 I decided it was time to get out of the classroom, retrained as an Ecologist and went to work in the voluntary sector as an environmental educator. I have worked for several charities, including 4 years on nature reserves with Somerset Wildlife Trust, and now work freelance as an environmental education consultant.
In 2013 I moved to North Devon. I was walking on the beach one day and met an old friend who told me about The Small School. Being new to the area and feeling the need to get out and meet new people I started volunteering and in September 2014 I joined the staff and now teach science to the Key Stage 3 students.
