The Trustees serve as the Governing body of the school, are liable for its assets and are responsible for its proper management. They employ the Headteacher and must ensure the school complies with all relevant legislation and operates with a policy framework designed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and visitors. The current Trustees are:

Mary Billson (Chair)

I am an Artist living in Hartland since April this year and my younger son is currently a student at the school. I grew up in London, then went to Art school in Surrey after which I worked in London at Liberty and then in the decorative art world. With the arrival of my first Daughter I moved to Clovelly in 1998 and have always been quite involved with my childrens' education, including some home-ed. Through my second daughters activities, I was also on the committee of the north Devon music centre. My passions are pilot Gig rowing, my art and music of all kinds.

Frances Stuart

Head shot of FrancesAs well over 15 years’ experience in mainstream secondary education, I have been working in the voluntary sector since 2003. I was Chief Executive of a small, independent, environmental education charity in Somerset for 4 years and am currently Chair of Trustees at Magdalen Environmental Trust, a residential education centre on an organic farm in Dorset. I also do some freelance project development and fundraising work. These roles have given me experience in the day to day running of a charity and also in management and governance.

Sarah Windsor

Head shot of SarahMy official job title is mum, although I also wear the hat of a Scout leader, a DofE supervisor, an adult trainer and most recently volunteer teacher. Unlike most of the other trustees, I had had no direct experience of The Small School before getting involved, but after a school day visit I found myself mesmerised by the ethos, the committed staff and the happy children. I am very pleased to be able to support the school and those who run it.
